Baby Bowman

The Husband and I had our 20 week ultrasound today! I never stopped being amazed by the beauty of God in His creation of another human being. All systems are a go! The baby is healthy and right where s/he needs to be. What a blessing.

Learning to Spell

Last night, I had to work a little late. The Boy called me at 5:30 PM asking me why do I have to work. It makes me sad to hear that, but he was very excited to hear that I would be home before he went to bed.

As I was driving home at 7:15 PM, I called home. The Boy got on the phone and was very excited that I was coming home. He had received his magazine in the mail. Our dear friends Beth and Jonathan gave him a subscription to High Five magazine for his birthday in January. This has been a great gift. Since The Boy is learning how to read (only certain words like dog, mommy, ball, etc.) this magazine has been a godsend. The Boy could hardly contain himself when he was talking to me about it on the phone. I had to read it with him as soon as I got home.

Now, High Five has a number of different features. One that has reached the top of the favorite list is the section entitled "How Silly!" The Boy loves this section and knows as soon as he sees the words to say "How Silly!" In an effort to utilize all those early childhood literacy classes I took with him, I decided to have him spell the words before he said them last night.

The Boy: H-O-W, How
Momma: That is correct, great job! No try the next word.
The Boy: S-I-Eleven-Y upside down i. Silly!

Can you really say that isn't right? I think not.

The Spring Break Trauma

The Boy was on Spring Break last week. The Husband and I have realized after this week that our little one has turned into a full-fledged, rough and tumble boy. While he still remains sweet, he has gotten to the stage where he likes to run, jump, fall, and wrestle. A part of me was hoping that he would stay sweet and gentle forever. No such luck. I guess it had to happen sometime.

The week started off with a bang I guess you could say. I had to work on Sunday for a few hours. When I got home, this is the conversation I was met with as my son was taking a nap...

The Husband: So, don't freak out.
Me: About what?
The Husband: The Boy had a little accident.
Me: What happened?
The Husband: He was climbing from the back seat to the front seat of my car and his foot caught on the console. He fell face first into the arm of the car door.
Me: Is he okay?
The Husband: He cried a little, but told me he was crying because it scared him, not because it hurt.
Me: Okay.
The Husband: So, he has a little mark right under his eye.

I attempt to check the little mark out while The Boy is sleeping. Since his room is dark, it doesn't look so bad. When he wakes up, there is a ginormous black eye on my child's face. I look at The Husband.

Me: That isn't a "little" mark.

So, my child has his first black eye. It looks much better a week later, but the interesting thing about the whole ordeal is that The Boy is actually proud of his shiner. He likes to talk about it. I, however, have been getting judgemental stares from folks when out in public. Most folks chalk it up to being a boy, but I have gotten a few awful glares and even some intense questions from folks I don't know. Crazy.

I guess I should get used to it, two days after the black eye incident, The Boy injured his forehead and side of his face on the slide. Rough and tumble...that's him.

Time to Get Back on The Horse

It has been a long time since I last wrote. Sorry to anyone out there still reading. This second pregnancy has really spun me for a loop. I spent the majority of March sick. This, in turn, made me what to shy away from writing. I just wanted to lay around and feel better. As we enter into spring, I am feeling better, but now welcome seasonal allergies to the mix. Fun times.

Over the last month many new things have happened. The Boy played in his first soccer game this weekend. Go Tigers! It was a balmy 40 degrees for the game. Needless to say, all the spectators froze their soccer shorts off, but The Boy and The Husband had tons of fun staying warm while running up and down the field. The Boy scored the one and only goal for our team. He was exhausted by the end. It was great fun.

I promise to be more diligent about blogging. Here is a little tidbit to take you away until next time...

The Boy has become increasingly interested in where God and Jesus live. I attribute this to Sunday School, prayer at dinner and before bed and our new routine of reading a bible story each night before The Boy lays down. Here is a fun conversation that occured at dinner one night last month.

The Boy: God is great, God is good, let us thank him for this food. Amen.
Us: Amen.
The Boy: Momma, where is God?
Momma: He is everywhere, remember? (We have talked about this before.)
The Boy: Then, where is Jesus?
Momma: Well, Jesus is in your heart.
The Boy: Where is your heart?
I point to my chest.
The Boy: Jesus lives in your boobies?

I should have pointed to his chest.

Until later this week!
